Oxidation, evaporation of the volatile fractions and, in E10, water absorbed through the ethanol all leave a fuel that is weak, acidic and full of gums. Draining it costs far less than the injector clean an attempt to burn it usually leads to. People often ask whether a splash of fresh fuel or an additive will revive it. Lightly stale petrol can sometimes be diluted and used in a mower or similar, but anything cloudy, separated or months old is best removed rather than nursed into an engine you care about. Proper disposal means a permitted end point and a documented trail. The petrol is taken to a licensed facility for recovery or safe destruction, and the transfer note is your record of compliant disposal. Disposal is where duty of care bites. Under the rules the waste is yours until it reaches a permitted facility, so the transfer note issued in Willowbrae Edinburgh — recording what left, when and where it went — is the document that keeps you covered if it is ever questioned. ## Local Scottish old petrol disposal in Willowbrae Edinburgh: the facts Fuel | Old petrol | Service | Collection and licensed disposal | Council area | City of Edinburgh | Why it degrades | Oxidises and loses octane in 3-6 months; E10 also absorbs water | Typical sources | Classic cars, motorbikes, mowers, generators, boats, jerry cans, clearances | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | SEPA | Typical cost | Quoted per litre | Attendance | Collected and disposed of under licence | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where old petrol comes from around Willowbrae Edinburgh Around Willowbrae Edinburgh the old petrol we collect and dispose of comes from classic and project cars stood over winter, motorbikes taken off the road, and the forgotten half-tank in a barn find. A registered carrier attends home, farm, depot, marina and commercial sites, pumps out the old petrol and issues a waste transfer note on site. **Can old petrol be recycled?** Once collected it goes to a licensed facility where it is processed for recovery or safe disposal. That routing is handled for you and documented on the transfer note. **How much old petrol will you take?** Anything from a single can to a full vehicle tank or a bulk store. Tell us the rough volume in litres and you get a price before anyone travels. **Is a small amount still worth collecting?** Yes. Even a can or two is safer removed than left in a garage, and it is lifted with a transfer note the same as a larger volume. **Will you take mixed or misfuelled petrol?** Yes — petrol mixed with diesel, oil or other fuel is collected and disposed of the same way. Just say what is in it when you call. ### One operator, four sites Fuel Fixer Scotland is the Scottish arm of Fuel Fixer Ltd.
