As it ages it throws off vapour more readily even as it loses the octane an engine needs, and the residue it leaves gums up everything it touches. It is also hazardous waste — you cannot tip it down a drain, onto the ground or into a bin. The commonest jobs are seasonal: mowers and machinery woken up in spring that will not run, or classics pulled out after winter with a tankful that has turned. In both, draining the old petrol and refilling fresh is the reliable fix. Collection is the practical half of the job: someone comes to where the petrol is, pumps it out of the tank, bowser, drums or cans, checks the container for residue and takes it away under a waste transfer note. You keep the note as proof it was handled correctly. A collection is arranged around your site in Colinton Edinburgh: we match the kit to the access, quote per litre on the volume, and book a window. The lift is a short visit — pump out, check the vessel, issue the note. ## Local Scottish old petrol collector in Colinton Edinburgh: the facts Fuel | Old petrol | Service | Collection and removal | Council area | City of Edinburgh | Postcode districts | EH13 | Why it degrades | Oxidises and loses octane in 3-6 months; E10 also absorbs water | Typical sources | Classic cars, motorbikes, mowers, generators, boats, jerry cans, clearances | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | SEPA | Typical cost | Quoted per litre | Attendance | Booked collection, often same day | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where old petrol comes from around Colinton Edinburgh Most of the old petrol we collect near Colinton Edinburgh originates in jerry cans and spare fuel aged in a shed or garage, and the last of the petrol in a car being sold, scrapped or SORNed. A registered carrier attends home, farm, depot, marina and commercial sites, pumps out the old petrol and issues a waste transfer note on site. **How do you know petrol has gone off?** It darkens, smells sour or like varnish rather than sharp, and may look cloudy where ethanol has drawn in water. If in doubt, do not try to burn it. **Can I just pour old petrol away?** No. Petrol is flammable hazardous waste. Putting it down a drain, onto the ground or in a bin is an offence and a fire risk. A registered carrier removes it under a transfer note. **Can old petrol be recycled?** Once collected it goes to a licensed facility where it is processed for recovery or safe disposal. That routing is handled for you and documented on the transfer note. **How much old petrol will you take?** Anything from a single can to a full vehicle tank or a bulk store. Tell us the rough volume in litres and you get a price before anyone travels. ### One operator, four sites Fuel Fixer Scotland is the Scottish arm of Fuel Fixer Ltd.
