That sludge blocks filters and starves engines. Whether old diesel can be saved depends on how far gone it is. Lightly contaminated fuel can sometimes be polished — filtered and dewatered — but water-laden, bugged or long-standing diesel is normally removed and the tank cleaned. The lift is the easy part once it is booked — a registered carrier attends, empties the diesel, checks the vessel and takes it away, with the transfer note issued on site so the chain of custody is clear. A collection runs to a booked slot rather than a wait. We confirm the price and window against the litres and access in Muirhouse Edinburgh, the carrier attends, draws the fuel off, and the transfer note is issued there and then as your record. ## Local Scottish old diesel collector in Muirhouse Edinburgh: the facts Fuel | Old diesel | Service | Collection and removal | Council area | City of Edinburgh | Why it degrades | Oxidises, drops sediment and grows diesel bug where water is present | Typical sources | Farm tanks, generators, plant, HGVs, boats, bowsers, bulk stores | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | SEPA | Typical cost | Quoted per litre | Attendance | Booked collection, often same day | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where old diesel comes from around Muirhouse Edinburgh We collect old diesel across Muirhouse Edinburgh from haulage yards rationalising bulk tanks, and depots clearing slow-moving or off-spec stock. A registered carrier attends home, farm, depot, marina and commercial sites, pumps out the old diesel and issues a waste transfer note on site. **What is diesel bug?** A microbial growth that lives at the boundary of water and diesel in a standing tank. It forms a dark sludge that blocks filters and lines and is a common reason stored diesel has to be removed. **Is old diesel hazardous waste?** Yes. Like petrol it cannot be tipped away or binned. A registered carrier pumps it out and it is disposed of through a permitted facility, with a transfer note issued on site. **Can contaminated diesel be cleaned instead of removed?** Polishing can recover lightly contaminated diesel, but heavily bugged or watered fuel is usually removed and the tank cleaned. We can advise once we know the state of it. **Will you empty a farm or bulk tank?** Yes — domestic, farm, estate and commercial bulk tanks, bowsers and drums. Give us the volume in litres and the access and you get a price and a slot before we travel. ### One operator, four sites Fuel Fixer Scotland is the Scottish arm of Fuel Fixer Ltd.
