Microbial contamination at the water line, oxidation products, and waxing in cold weather all leave a fuel that fouls the fine tolerances of a modern injection system. Diesel bug is the word most people land on, and it is real: a community of bacteria and fungi living off the fuel at the water interface. Left alone it corrodes tanks as well as blocking filters, which is why a heavily bugged tank is usually emptied and cleaned rather than dosed. Collection puts the burden on the carrier, not you: they attend, pump out the diesel, inspect what held it and remove it under licence, leaving the transfer note behind as evidence. A collection runs to a booked slot rather than a wait. We confirm the price and window against the litres and access in Grantown on Spey, the carrier attends, draws the fuel off, and the transfer note is issued there and then as your record. ## Local Scottish old diesel collector in Grantown on Spey: the facts Fuel | Old diesel | Service | Collection and removal | Council area | Highland | Why it degrades | Oxidises, drops sediment and grows diesel bug where water is present | Typical sources | Farm tanks, generators, plant, HGVs, boats, bowsers, bulk stores | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | SEPA | Typical cost | Quoted per litre | Attendance | Booked collection, often same day | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where old diesel comes from around Grantown on Spey We collect old diesel across Grantown on Spey from deceased estates, farm dispersal sales and yard clearances where old diesel stock has to be cleared. A registered carrier attends home, farm, depot, marina and commercial sites, pumps out the old diesel and issues a waste transfer note on site. **What is diesel bug?** A microbial growth that lives at the boundary of water and diesel in a standing tank. It forms a dark sludge that blocks filters and lines and is a common reason stored diesel has to be removed. **Is old diesel hazardous waste?** Yes. Like petrol it cannot be tipped away or binned. A registered carrier pumps it out and it is disposed of through a permitted facility, with a transfer note issued on site. **Can contaminated diesel be cleaned instead of removed?** Polishing can recover lightly contaminated diesel, but heavily bugged or watered fuel is usually removed and the tank cleaned. We can advise once we know the state of it. **Will you empty a farm or bulk tank?** Yes — domestic, farm, estate and commercial bulk tanks, bowsers and drums. Give us the volume in litres and the access and you get a price and a slot before we travel. ### One operator, four sites Fuel Fixer Scotland is the Scottish arm of Fuel Fixer Ltd.
