Microbial contamination at the water line, oxidation products, and waxing in cold weather all leave a fuel that fouls the fine tolerances of a modern injection system. Bulk and bowser volumes are routine. Whether it is a few hundred litres in a standby generator or a few thousand in a farm tank, the collection is booked against the volume and the access rather than turned away for size. At collection a carrier comes to the diesel wherever it sits, draws it out, checks for residue in the tank or cans, and carries it away — the transfer note recording exactly what was lifted. Collections in Alloway are booked, priced and windowed up front. The carrier brings the pump, empties the tank, bowser or cans, checks for residue, and hands over the transfer note — you keep it, and that is the job done. ## Local Scottish old diesel collector in Alloway: the facts Fuel | Old diesel | Service | Collection and removal | Council area | South Ayrshire | Postcode districts | KA7 | Why it degrades | Oxidises, drops sediment and grows diesel bug where water is present | Typical sources | Farm tanks, generators, plant, HGVs, boats, bowsers, bulk stores | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | SEPA | Typical cost | Quoted per litre | Attendance | Booked collection, often same day | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where old diesel comes from around Alloway In Alloway the usual sources of old diesel we collect are HGVs, buses, tractors and machinery laid up or awaiting repair, and bowsers left part-full over a season. A registered carrier attends home, farm, depot, marina and commercial sites, pumps out the old diesel and issues a waste transfer note on site. **What is diesel bug?** A microbial growth that lives at the boundary of water and diesel in a standing tank. It forms a dark sludge that blocks filters and lines and is a common reason stored diesel has to be removed. **Is old diesel hazardous waste?** Yes. Like petrol it cannot be tipped away or binned. A registered carrier pumps it out and it is disposed of through a permitted facility, with a transfer note issued on site. **Can contaminated diesel be cleaned instead of removed?** Polishing can recover lightly contaminated diesel, but heavily bugged or watered fuel is usually removed and the tank cleaned. We can advise once we know the state of it. **Will you empty a farm or bulk tank?** Yes — domestic, farm, estate and commercial bulk tanks, bowsers and drums. Give us the volume in litres and the access and you get a price and a slot before we travel. ### One operator, four sites Fuel Fixer Scotland is the Scottish arm of Fuel Fixer Ltd.
