The most common call is a boiler upgrade or a switch to a heat pump, leaving a tank of kerosene with nowhere to go. Pumping it out and removing it is a short job once the tank is accessible. Collection puts the burden on the carrier, not you: they attend, pump out the kerosene, inspect what held it and remove it under licence, leaving the transfer note behind as evidence. What makes a collection in Silverknowes Edinburgh smooth is knowing the access: whether a tanker can get to the tank, or the drums have to be carried out. Give us that and the volume on the call and the quote and window are fixed before travel. ## Local Scottish kerosene collector in Silverknowes Edinburgh: the facts Fuel | Kerosene | Service | Collection and removal | Council area | City of Edinburgh | Why it degrades | Grows water sludge and bacteria over time; fouls the boiler nozzle | Typical sources | Home heating tanks, decommissioning, boiler upgrades, house sales, estates | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | SEPA | Typical cost | Quoted per litre | Attendance | Booked collection, often same day | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where kerosene comes from around Silverknowes Edinburgh Most of the kerosene we collect near Silverknowes Edinburgh originates in tanks holding old paraffin or long-standing kerosene the household no longer uses. A registered carrier attends home, farm, depot, marina and commercial sites, pumps out the kerosene and issues a waste transfer note on site. **Is kerosene the same as heating oil?** Kerosene (28-second) is the common domestic heating oil for off-grid homes. Heating oil also covers gas oil (35-second) used by some older or agricultural boilers. We collect both. **Why does old kerosene stop the boiler working?** Water and sludge collecting under the fuel, plus bacterial growth, block the boiler's fine nozzle. Removing the old oil and cleaning the tank usually clears it. **Can I empty my own oil tank?** It is safer and cleaner to have it pumped out by a registered carrier, especially as the oil is hazardous waste that cannot be tipped away. You also get a transfer note. **Do you decommission the tank too?** We pump out and remove the kerosene and can advise on or arrange tank cleaning and decommissioning.
