That is what fouls burners and corrodes tanks. Once collected, heating oil and its sludge go to a permitted facility for recovery or disposal, documented on a transfer note that is your duty-of-care record. Proper disposal means a permitted end point and a documented trail. The heating oil is taken to a licensed facility for recovery or safe destruction, and the transfer note is your record of compliant disposal. Done properly, disposal gives you a defensible trail. The fuel from Trinity Edinburgh is destroyed or recovered at a licensed facility, and the documentation issued is what protects you under the duty-of-care regime. ## Local Scottish heating oil disposal in Trinity Edinburgh: the facts Fuel | Heating oil | Service | Collection and licensed disposal | Council area | City of Edinburgh | Why it degrades | Kerosene or gas oil; collects water, sludge and bacteria and corrodes tanks | Typical sources | Tank decommissioning, heating changes, contamination, sales, spills, estates | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | SEPA | Typical cost | Quoted per litre | Attendance | Collected and disposed of under licence | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where heating oil comes from around Trinity Edinburgh The heating oil we collect and dispose of in and around Trinity Edinburgh tends to come from spills, leaks and overfilled deliveries, and sludge pumped from the bottom of a tank being cleaned.
