For a leaking or corroded tank, getting the oil and sludge out is the first safe step before the tank is cleaned, cut down or removed. Describe the tank's condition when you call so the right kit comes. The disposal side is the paperwork and the destination. The heating oil is routed to a licensed facility, processed or destroyed, and logged on a transfer note so you can show it was dealt with lawfully. Disposal is where duty of care bites. Under the rules the waste is yours until it reaches a permitted facility, so the transfer note issued in Thurso — recording what left, when and where it went — is the document that keeps you covered if it is ever questioned. ## Local Scottish heating oil disposal in Thurso: the facts Fuel | Heating oil | Service | Collection and licensed disposal | Council area | Highland | Postcode districts | KW14 | Why it degrades | Kerosene or gas oil; collects water, sludge and bacteria and corrodes tanks | Typical sources | Tank decommissioning, heating changes, contamination, sales, spills, estates | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | SEPA | Typical cost | Quoted per litre | Attendance | Collected and disposed of under licence | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where heating oil comes from around Thurso Most of the heating oil we collect and dispose of near Thurso originates in farm, estate and small commercial heating-oil stores being cleared or downsized.
