Tank sludge is where proper clearance differs from a simple pump-out. The water and degraded residue at the bottom are lifted as well as the usable oil, which is what leaves a tank genuinely empty and clean. Disposal is what keeps you clean under duty-of-care rules: the heating oil goes to a permitted facility rather than anywhere convenient, and the transfer note proves where it went and when. Getting disposal right is about the destination and the record. The fuel from Newtown St Boswells goes to a permitted facility, is handled under environmental rules, and the transfer note is your audit trail showing it was dealt with lawfully. ## Local Scottish heating oil disposal in Newtown St Boswells: the facts Fuel | Heating oil | Service | Collection and licensed disposal | Council area | Scottish Borders | Why it degrades | Kerosene or gas oil; collects water, sludge and bacteria and corrodes tanks | Typical sources | Tank decommissioning, heating changes, contamination, sales, spills, estates | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | SEPA | Typical cost | Quoted per litre | Attendance | Collected and disposed of under licence | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where heating oil comes from around Newtown St Boswells Around Newtown St Boswells the heating oil we collect and dispose of comes from farm, estate and small commercial heating-oil stores being cleared or downsized.
