Once collected, heating oil and its sludge go to a permitted facility for recovery or disposal, documented on a transfer note that is your duty-of-care record. Once lifted, the heating oil is disposed of through a licensed route — recovered where it can be, destroyed where it cannot — and every step is captured on the waste transfer note you keep. Disposal is where duty of care bites. Under the rules the waste is yours until it reaches a permitted facility, so the transfer note issued in Broughton — recording what left, when and where it went — is the document that keeps you covered if it is ever questioned. ## Local Scottish heating oil disposal in Broughton: the facts Fuel | Heating oil | Service | Collection and licensed disposal | Council area | Scottish Borders | Postcode districts | ML12 | Why it degrades | Kerosene or gas oil; collects water, sludge and bacteria and corrodes tanks | Typical sources | Tank decommissioning, heating changes, contamination, sales, spills, estates | Classification | Hazardous waste — waste transfer note issued | Regulator | SEPA | Typical cost | Quoted per litre | Attendance | Collected and disposed of under licence | Helpline | 01295 380724 | ## Where heating oil comes from around Broughton The heating oil we collect and dispose of in and around Broughton tends to come from spills, leaks and overfilled deliveries, and sludge pumped from the bottom of a tank being cleaned. A registered carrier attends home, farm, depot, marina and commercial sites, pumps out the heating oil and issues a waste transfer note on site. **Is heating oil hazardous waste?** Yes. It cannot be tipped away, drained or left in a redundant tank. A registered carrier removes it and disposes of it through a permitted facility with a transfer note. **Can you help with a leaking or rusted tank?** We pump out the oil and sludge so a failing tank can be dealt with safely, and can advise on cleaning and decommissioning. Describe the tank when you call. **Do you cover commercial as well as domestic tanks?** Yes — house tanks, bunded commercial stores and farm tanks alike, quoted per litre against the volume and access. **How soon can it be collected?** Often quickly for accessible sites; the window is confirmed with the quote before travel. A leak is treated as more urgent. ### One operator, four sites Fuel Fixer Scotland is the Scottish arm of Fuel Fixer Ltd.
